Interior vs. Exterior Window Cleaning: Does Your Sydney Home Need Both?
When most people think about window cleaning, they picture the outside: the rain spots, the pollution film, the general grime that builds up on any glass surface facing Sydney's weather. And exterior cleaning is certainly the more frequent need.
But interior windows have their own buildup, and a home where the outside is clean and the inside is dirty still has dirty windows.
What Accumulates on Interior Windows
Interior glass doesn't face weather, but it does face daily life. Fingerprints, particularly around handles and sliding door frames, are the most visible accumulation. In living areas and kitchens, cooking oils and steam create a residue that diffuses light and makes glass look perpetually foggy even when it's technically "dry."
Condensation in bathrooms and laundries causes water spotting on interior glass that's difficult to remove without professional products. In homes with children or pets, ground-level glass often has marks that standard household spray can't fully shift.
How Often Interior Windows Need Cleaning
Interior windows accumulate more slowly than exterior ones, so they typically need professional cleaning less frequently. For most homes, cleaning interior windows every 12–18 months is sufficient, combined with spot-cleaning high-traffic areas (sliding doors, entry glass) as needed.
The exception is bathrooms, which may need attention more frequently due to humidity and water spotting, and kitchen windows near cooking areas.
When You Should Do Both Together
The most efficient approach is to schedule interior and exterior cleaning on the same visit at a defined interval, typically annually for interior, with exterior done more frequently (two to four times per year depending on the property's exposure to dust and weather).
For properties near the coast, construction sites or busy roads, exterior cleaning frequency should be higher. Salt air, concrete dust and traffic pollution create visible surface buildup in as little as six to eight weeks.
